WZRD ARCHIVE October 18th, 2019

On the evening of Friday, October 18th, the WZRD Media fall gathering was ready to commence. Debuting 3 films from directors within their team, the group had gathered an audience of more than 40 people in the warehouse connected to their sugarhouse based offices. The short films being shown were meant to address larger societal problems that often go unnoticed. A radiant atmosphere greeted the directors and producers as they queue'd up their creations on the large projector for, in a few cases, the first public viewing.

The first film was an in-depth view into homelessness, following one man's journey from being homeless to helping others who're facing the same, bleak outlook. Each character brought a different story and hope from their background of living on the streets.

The second filmed followed a professional female snowboarder on her journey through different mountain recreation areas and career stages. She had more experience under her belt while mentoring and teaching a younger rider about the profession. Each moment of the film juxtaposed the younger between older rider's ability, perspective, and aspirations.

The third and final film, called Second Sight, following an Indonesian family as the matriarch contracts, and get treatment for, cataract blindness.  The profound impact felt by the family who has their primary caretaker seemingly permanently disabled is of paramount importance in this gripping story. Just a few examples include Johannley and her husband having to take their kids out of school and retrofit their home, made out of clay, to suit the needs of their recently blind mother.

Even though the films left audience members feeling at times discouraged by the enormity of the issues and a longing to help, each filmmaker left them with call to action, explaining what they can do to get involved. Once the messages sank in, the group embraced the chance to celebrate the momentous achievement that is communicating these messages to a larger audience. With a full-bar and lofted DJ space, attendees partied well into the morning, sealing in what was another success for this dynamic storytelling team.
